Inspector Education / CECs Opportunities

CREIA Educational Mission Statement

The educational growth of the individual inspector through participation in CREIA membership activities and programs where the sharing of experience and knowledge will result in betterment of the home inspection profession and protection of the consumer public which it serves.

Members can gain Continuing Education in a number of ways:

CREIA Annual Conferences

California Real Estate Inspection Association (CREIA) holds an Annual Conference aiming for the site of the Conference to be on a north/south rotation whenever possible. The CREIA Annual Conference has earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the most stimulating and worthwhile education opportunities for inspectors in California. Additionally, the Conference Committee also aims to provide networking opportunities, Associate certification required programs such as a Group Standard of Practice Report Review, and a robust exhibit show. Twenty to 30 CECs may be gained by attending fully in the Annual Conference. Attendance at the Conference automatically removes a member from CREIA's auditing process which takes place every month during renewals. We suggest all members attend the Conference for networking and education, all the while enjoying the different aspects of the real estate inspection community.

Volunteering with CREIA

Members can earn Continuing Education Credits by volunteering on the state Board of Directors and committees, chapter boards and committees, writing articles for publications, etc. Associate members can earn CECs by satisfying certification requirements. Please click the following link for Guidelines and Information.

CREIA Chapter Meetings and Toolbox Seminars

CREIA chapters are located throughout the state - click here to view the state map and chapter locations. Most chapters hold monthly educational meetings and special event programs such as Group SOP events (Toolboxes). Each CREIA member is assigned to a local chapter, however, any member can attend any chapters meeting. All Certified CREIA Inspector (CCI) and Master CREIA Inspector (MCI) members, Associates, Affiliates and prospective members/guests are invited to attend local meetings. Chapter meetings are an excellent way to meet and interact with peers, participate in educational programs, and market products and services to those in the inspection industry. Toolbox events are held by the CREIA Chapters which allow members to obtain CECs at a reduced cost. Members are required to attend two chapter meetings per renewal/year.

CREIA Technical Information Exchange

One of the most valuable CREIA member benefits is the CREIA Technical Information Exchange (TIE). The purpose of the TIE is to educate members by sharing technical aspects of real estate inspections and providing an archival collection of information free of extraneous content.

The CREIA TIE is available through the CREIA website at  At the top-right of the toolbar on the main page, click “Login.” Enter your username and password. If you forgot your password, you may click “Forgot Password” and an email will be sent to your email on file to reset your password. If you need any help with your username and password, you may also contact the CREIA office.

Members may earn CECs upon posting content deemed worth hours of study. Requests for CECs should be sent to [email protected] The Education Committee Chair will review the activity and will note whether or not CECs can be granted.  Please note, there will be a limit of CECs earned for online activities, which is under review.

CREIA Educational Providers

CREIA-approved education consists of educational sources that have been reviewed and approved by the Chair of the CREIA Education Committee and/or the CREIA Board of Directors -- this is considered education that is "CREIA Approved."
